MARA [BITTERNESS]

 MARA [BITTERNESS]

Dear children of God, greetings in the sweet name of Jesus Christ, and who is able to turn our bitterness into sweetness. Some people live in bitterness, talk in bitterness, walk in bitterness, and going through the experience of bitterness and end up with bitterness. Our God does not want us to live in bitterness and go through bitterness. He changes things in our life, only thing we have to trust him who changes bitterness into sweetness. We need not to go through the bitterness always. The time will come; God brings people from Mara to Elim where we can find springs of water and sweet dates. Great triumph over pharaoh and Egyptians brought Israel people to rejoice and dance, but the rejoicing stopped when they faced life as they traveled in the wilderness three days without water to drink. They started to murmur against God and God’s servants Moses and Aaron and they showed their bitterness to them in words and deeds. They did not trust the Lord who was traveling along with them.

Then Moses made Israel set out from the red sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Mara, they could not drink water of Mara because it was bitter. And the people grumbled against Moses, and saying, what shall we drink? Moses cried unto the Lord, and the Lord showed a tree [log] and he cut and threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. To remove our bitterness from our life, a shoot from the stump of Jesse, cutoff on the cross, and threw into our life to bring sweetness. Trust Jesus, he is the one cutoff on the cross [tree] and gave his life to change our bitterness. Don’t be anxious and grumble against God, he is walking along with you in your life’s journey.

Bitter water became sweet, not only that he brought them from Mara to Elim where they found twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water. When God changes our bitterness, he brings plenty of springs of joy and sweetness. So dear children, throw away all your bitterness, just come to the lord, and say to him Oh! Lord gives me sweetness and takes away the bitterness from me. Surely he is able to give sweetness plenty. We should not forget that one who is able to change our bitter experience into sweet blessing one. So let us remove all our grumblings, and murmurings to trust the Lord who leads us in the wilderness with sweet water and plenty of water springs and date fruits.

Naomi means sweetness. Sweetness became Mara in Naomi’s life. Because she left the house of bread [Bethlehem] and the supplier of bread of life. Why she left the house of bread and the bread of life?      It because of famine in the land, she did not depend upon the Lord who supplies our needs. But she looked at the flourished land called Mo ab. There she settled for ten years, and within ten years she lost her husband and her two sons. Now she says that don’t call me Naomi but Mara, for the Lord Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. Because I went to Moab with fullness and sweetness but I am emptied and filled with bitterness. Why call me Naomi? But God did not allow ending up her life with bitterness, and God intervened into her life to bring sweetness in her life. Jesus said that I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. Israelite people wandered in the wilderness with thirst and hunger, but God satisfied their soul with bountiful blessings. He says that whoever comes to him and whoever believes in him will not hunger and thirst.[JOHN6:35 ]

Dear children of God let us check ourselves to look back our God who supplies our needs without fail. Naomi’s generation built up through her daughter-in-law Ruth and it became our Lord Jesus Christ’s genealogy. How her bitterness changed into sweetness? It’s wonderful because she returned to the house bread and the bread of life. Today we may face this kind of bitter experience in our day today journey and life. But don’t forget, we have a God who is able to meet and supply our needs, and changes our bitterness into sweetness. When Mara comes in our life, please wait there should be an Elim with springs of sweet waters and plenty of fruits of dates.
