COMMANDMENTS

COMMANDMENTS

Dear friends, let us learn the God’s commandments and know the meanings and obey the commandments. God gave Ten Commandments to Israel people and made a covenant with his people. First, first God had given only one commandment to Adam and eve to obey. God had expected to obey the commandment, but they have failed. So the relationship between God and Adam and eve were broken. In the Eden itself God had planned a great salvation plan by calling Adam, where are you? He gave them dress to cover their nakedness. God said to the serpent, I will put enmity between you and woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his hell. To save the humanity, God had called Abraham and made his covenant with him and his offspring. When the people of Israel went to Egypt, God remembered his covenant with Abraham and brought them out of Egypt, and promised them the land of milk and honey. On the way to inherit the Promised Land, God again made covenant with the people of Israel and gave Ten Commandments through Moses.

Ten Commandments depict in two places in the bible, exodus20:1-17, deuteronomy5:6-21.1.       I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.2.       You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I am the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.3.       You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his names in vain.4.       Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, your son, or your daughter, your male servant or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.5.       Honor your father and your mother that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.6.       You shall not murder.7.       You shall not commit adultery.8.       You shall not steal.9.       You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.10.   You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.

The first part of Ten Commandments are from 1to 4, and it’s explains that what we have to do for God and obey his words. The duty is of a man towards God.  The meaning of the duty is to serve and love the Lord our God with our whole heart, mind and soul. The second part of Ten Commandments are from 5 to 10, and it’s explains that what we have to do for man. The duty is of a man towards man. The meaning of the duty is to serve and love the man [human beings].

Jesus Christ gave two commandments, and the bible depicts in two places, Mathew 22:37-40, Mark 12:29-31, it’s called as Great Commandments.1.       Hear O, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind and with all your strength.

2.       You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.                                                                                                       Here Jesus explains the Ten Commandments in to two parts.  First and most important is to love and serve the Lord our God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength. The second one is to love our neighbor, is to do our duty to serve the human being with love as ourselves. Jesus gave a New Commandment to his disciples to follow. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you; you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

Dear friends, commandments are given to obey and follow. So that let us obey and receive the blessings from our God. Blessings are given on conditions only. Observe and obey, you will receive the blessings. The commandment is an order, so we have to obey the order without questioning. Loving God is to give priority and first place to God in our life. Loving mankind is to serve and help them without partiality. Mother Teresa was moved with compassion, when she saw the Lepers, orphans, and dust pin’s babies. She said that when I see these people, I see them as my Lord and savior Jesus with need of help and love. Loving the Lord is by keeping the commandments. By serving the human beings, we can show the love of God. God is love. For God so loved world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes to him should not perish but have eternal life.  God did not send his son, into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned. Let us love God and keep his commandments, and serve the mankind by love and receive the eternal life.
